A global coalition launching a shared agenda A global coalition of volunteering leaders has developed the Call to Action for the Future of Volunteering—a shared global agenda designed to strengthen how volunteering is recognised, supported, and safeguarded worldwide. It will be formally launched on 5 December 2025 at the official UN event for International Volunteer Day, marking the beginning of the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development 2026 (IVY 2026).
Developed collectively through extensive global consultation The Call to Action was co-created by the Global Volunteering Forum (Forum), the International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), UNICEF Generation Unlimited, and the Volunteer Groups Alliance, working closely with UN Volunteers (UNV). It is grounded in one of the most extensive consultations ever undertaken in the volunteering sector, drawing on the voices of nearly 14,000 volunteers and stakeholders across 164 countries. The consultation was facilitated by Dr Chris Millora of Goldsmiths, University of London, supported by a global sense-making group of volunteer sector leaders.
